Legislative Report (3 December 2025)

Legislative Report
December 3, 2025

Our government is pleased to highlight several recent initiatives that reflect our ongoing commitment to community safety, economic growth, family supports and recognizing the contributions of Saskatchewan residents. These updates demonstrate important work underway across our province.

The Premier's Commendation was recently awarded to honour those who stepped up during one of the most devastating wildfire seasons on record. Volunteer and municipal fire departments were acknowledged for their courage, service and tireless efforts protecting communities. This acknowledgment show bravery and how we Saskatchewan people come together in times of crisis, and we thank all firefighters for keeping our province safer.

Shifting focus to economic growth, our government introduced the new Co-operatives Act, 2025, which creates a better legal and economic environment. Co-operatives make a positive impact on the day-to-day lives of Saskatchewan residents, employ thousands of people and have been part of the fabric of our province for over a hundred years. More than half of Saskatchewan residents are members of at least one of nearly 800 co-ops across sectors such as agriculture, retail and childcare to name a few. With more people investing in Saskatchewan and starting businesses, this legislation reduces red tape and increases flexibility, making it easier to build and operate co-ops across the province.

As we look ahead, the province continues to prioritize families. The extension of the Canada-Saskatchewan Early Learning and Child Care Agreement was announced for another five years, beginning in 2026-2027. This ensures low-cost, quality child care remains affordable and accessible. With fees reduced to $10 a day and thousands of new spaces created, our government continues to build on this progress and support the early childhood educators who make it possible.

At the same time, our government passed new legislation, The Cyberstalking and Coercive Control Act, to strengthen protections against interpersonal violence. The Act provides support for victims and survivors of these types of abuse, ensuring they are entitled to protections under our laws while increasing accountability for the perpetrators. This complements our government’s other public safety priorities and shows commitment to justice and care for vulnerable residents.

Building on that commitment to safety, the recent introduction of The Response to Illicit Drugs Act strengthens accountability for traffickers and enhances community safety. This also provides government and individuals with tools to recover costs associated with the harms caused by illicit drug activity. At the same time, our government will continue its support for people living with addictions by committing record investments in treatment and recovery services.

We recognize the longstanding contributions of organizations that help strengthen communities across the province. On December 2, our government proclaimed SaskAbilities Day, celebrating their 75 years of service to persons with disabilities. Our partnership with SaskAbilities is one we deeply value, and our government congratulates them on this milestone. For decades, individuals and their families have benefited from the quality services provided by SaskAbilities. We look forward to continuing our shared efforts to build an inclusive Saskatchewan.

These initiatives reflect a government working on many fronts: building a stronger economy, supporting families, honouring the people of our great province and keeping our communities safer. There is still work to be done, and our government remains committed to building on the great progress we have made for our people, our province and our future.
